Chicago-born flutist and visual artist Tessa Vermeulen is Associate Principal/Second Flute of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra and has received national recognition as a soloist. She has performed concerti with numerous Chicago orchestras and performed at the National Flute Association 2024 Convention.
In the orchestral world, Tessa has appeared with the New York Philharmonic, Baltimore Symphony, Milwaukee Symphony, and as guest principal of the St. Louis Symphony. She has been a fellow with the Music Academy of the West, National Repertory Orchestra, and the National Symphony Orchestra Summer Music Institute.
Tessa is a passionate teacher and adjudicator, having given lectures at the Carnegie Mellon University and judged for an orchestral competition for the National Flute Association.
Now living in Birmingham, AL, Tessa seeks to optimize orchestral audition preparation and solo performance, as well as share her love of writing, teaching, and visual art creation.
Tessa received her Bachelor’s degree from Carnegie Mellon University with Alberto Almarza, and her graduate degree from The Juilliard School with Robert Langevin.
